Savage Beauty
Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 The Met has done McQueen proud in their staging of Savage Beauty. The sets and lighting of the pieces is exquisite. The curator, Andrew Bolton, has focused on McQueen’s love of Romanticism and included 100 pieces from the first show to the last. The dramatic exhibition includes videos of the runway presentations and a hologram of Kate Moss.
The intricacy of the workmanship in combination with his complex concepts makes a memorable show, each room more amazing than the last. Seeing the pieces up close is a very different experience from the shows.
The Sound of Sport

This documentary on Radio 4 is about the significance of sound in our experience of sport. Amazing to hear how many microphones they use for televised sports events mixing the sounds of the crowds, verbal dialogue, the physical actions, equipment and elements. Isolating and layering the individual sounds brings a sense of intimacy with the sports person and increases the sense of drama and excitement.
Dennis Baxter will design the sound of the Olympics and he says he will be using 4000 mics for the event. I’m going to listen more carefully now.
