Electric Hotel

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Amazing dance piece devised by David Rosenberg and choreographer Frauke Requardt. A four-storey hotel set has been erected on wasteland in King’s Cross including a rooftop nightclub and pool. The audience watch the Lynch-like story unfolding above and listen to an intense soundscore through headphones. The dancers perform in the room areas individually and with shared connections between the characters.

This is a really special voyeuristic experience which included a rising moon behind the Gas Holder.

Gary Hume for LV

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Louis Vuitton is collaborating with Gary Hume, Mark Quinn, Anish Kapoor and Chris Ofili on a series limited edition prints in beautiful leather boxes and hand bound notebooks. Hume’s boxes are shown here with notebooks by Quinn and Kapoor. They are so precious an art handler had to position them for me to photograph.

I also shot Gary in his studio for Wallpaper and he was working on a huge new painting for Spruth Magers in Berlin. He uses household gloss paint on large metal panels. He paints the work himself but his assistant helps with the painstaking job of cutting and positioning the draught excluder he uses to divide the areas of paint. Beautiful and unusual combinations of colours are used in the paintings and the mixed paint is poured into paper cups ready for use.
